Top Games of 2008

Posted in Uncategorized on February 13, 2009 by sk8300

As You are all aware 2009 is here, so i have decided to do a best games of 2008 Feauture.

Kicking things off at number 5 is:

Grand Theft Auto 4

GTAIV was a good game but because of the bugs and the unecsisary hype it wasn’t the best game of 2008. However it deserves to go in the list because it is a well loved franchise and having a Hijacking and Murdering prostitutes in HD was too much to refuse. So Nicko Bellick sits at number 5.

At number 4 we have:

GT5 Prologue

Fans of the race series got their wishes in 2008 with the release of Prologue, at £20 this was a great title even if there was only a limited number of tracks and a handful of cars this filled the gap with its HD graphics while the wait for GT5 continues.

Number 3 is:

Little Big Planet

This little gem gave gamers a customiseable world where they could create as much as they wanted and share it with their friends, this was really a great game and is why its number 3 in our collection.

So Second we have:

Call Of Duty: World At War

A lot of different opinions surround this game, Strip and reskin a very popular COD4 engine and you end up with a gauranteed winner. COD WAW was a very good game and will be played for years to come.

So the Winner is:

Fallout 3

I love this game, so much to see and do, plus blowing peoples heads up is always fun the award has to go to F3

Heres some footage of the winner:

So there we have it 2008 summed up, Although there were many good games released and some not so good ones (haze).

Fallout 3 Review

Posted in Reviews on February 13, 2009 by sk8300

Although i have not played Fallout 3 (F3) all the way through the main quest, i have spent around 15 hours in the wastelands exploring and getting chased by super mutants. F3 is made by Bethesda who are known for their Elder Scrolls serie. F3 is a first person role playing game, however it can be played in third person aswell.

The Story of F3 basically evolves around the main character, who is in search of his father. You investigate this story by completing quests and gaining information from the various people around the wastelands. The main story can be completed in 10-15 hours depending on how thorough you do them, However to get the most out of the F3 experience you should explore and search every corner of the wasteland.  There are different side quests to do and different things to explore.

There a nmber of different weapon types ranging from Baseball Bats to Mini-Nuke Launchers. Most weapons can be found around the wasteland or bought of merchants and trader in the various cities. Keeping these weapons in a good condition is the only way to survive, You dont want to have to take down a Super Mutant with a baseball bat.

The most important part of F3 is the VATS system. VATS enables players to target specific parts of the body and place hit points down, although the player is limited to a specific number of hit points and the distance affects accuracy when pulled of correctly the results are astonishing, blasting off arms and blowing heads up just makes you play more.

As for the enviroment it is fairly large and you will find yourselfs wandering around looking at the various monuments and landscapes. It is highly explorable and treasures await the curious, however if that isnt your way of playing then there is a quick transport option (providing you have discovered your location).

The XP and levelling system looks complicated but is well explained, and will need some time dedicated to levelling up in order to complete various side quests, because hacking skills are needed for some.

As a package the Game is well worth its £40 original price, but now it is coming down it is a must-have game. Stunning graphics in places, and with over 120 hours of gameplay possibities F3 is a very special game.

Joypad Score:

9.5/10

There are some bugs so we cannot give it 10 but we really want to.

Sega Rally Review

Posted in Reviews on July 11, 2008 by sk8300

This is are first review for a long time as we have been busy doing other things here at the Joypad/

When we first played Sega Rally we were very impressed by what sega had accomplished. Not only is the game quick and easy to pick up and play, but the graphics are good and fairly detailed. There are a surprising amount of cars available to the player and although their are not many tracks each race is unique.

We are a little dissapointed to find nobody still plays this game online but all in all we are pleased with it.

The Joypad Score: 6/10

Not the best game but good value for money and a great game with good graphics.

Call of Duty 4 Review (ps3)

Posted in Reviews on January 9, 2008 by sk8300

One of the best shooters on the PS3 was how CoD4 was described to us. We have to be honest and agree with that statement it is an amazing game visually and gameplay wise. The game is presented beautifully with high resolution graphics and lovely animations. The game takes itself away from the other games in the series by taking a look at terroism and modern warfare. With each mission there are lovely locations and satisfying challenges.

The single player is slightly short which even the graphics cant make up for. However the multiplayer could be its own game. The multiplayer reminded us of the Battlefield series, but with nicer visuals and faster gameplay. The multiplayer is designed to reward you as you become better at the game. It has a rank system and is based on experience points. When you first play you can only play a certain type of game mode and you unlock more as you progress through the ranks. There is a create a class mode where players can customize their weapons add attachments and even adjust the guns camoflage, they can even name their unique class. The game itself may not be long but it is highly worth buying and playing because it is an amazing game.

The Joypad Score: 9/10

Amazing visuals, excellent gameplay and multiplayer. Its just its lenght that lets this game down.

Review: Juiced 2 Hot Import Nights (ps3)

Posted in Reviews on January 4, 2008 by sk8300

The first Juiced game was a well made game and rivaled the Need for Speed franchise. Its graphics wernt amazing but it had a good idea with the race bets and the customisation was quite good aswell. The second one has managed to provide a game that is as good as the first one was. The graphics of the game are pretty good and there is some unique lighting in the game.

The actuall gameplay is solid and the betting system has been revamped and an a pinkslip race has been included. However if you are undecided between NFS Prostreet then im afraid Prostreet is much better in are opinion but if your looking for a solid racing game with cool customisation options then Juiced 2 will do fine.

The Joypad Score: 6/10

Good game just not the best game we have played.

Super Stardust HD review (ps3)

Posted in Reviews on December 21, 2007 by sk8300

We have recently purchased the Super Stardust game from psn and have found that we are addicted to the game. The graphics are fresh and nice looking. The idea of the game is to fly around a certain planet and destroy everything that gets in your way. Their are 4 main weapons for you to use which all have their advantages and disadvantages. Each planet has its unique features and provides a long life for the game. The music in the game is good and we could just turn the game on and listen to the music for a while. The graphics show the planets off nicely and provide amazing visuals when their are alot of enemies nearby.

The Joypad Score: 8/10

Amazing visuals and nice music
